Schaefer Portrait Challenge VIII (2025)

Isaac Zablan is a talented musician from Lana’i, celebrated for his dynamic drum, cajón, and vocal performances. His commanding stage presence makes him a fan favorite across the islands, performing at local events and collaborating with other artists.

Isaac’s musical journey began at age 9 with his family's band. As his talent developed, his high school group made it all the way to the Brown Bags to Stardom finals. After a construction accident resulted in a stroke and severe leg injury, Isaac’s upbeat determination fueled his return to the stage. His new band, i-Drive, became the regular 2nd Fridays act at Fleetwood’s in Lahaina; they now perform at venues statewide and on the Mainland. 

I sketched Isaac playing drums and bongos, but we decided on the cajón. With this portrait of Isaac, I've tried to capture his striking presence, enduring positivity, and genuine love of music...and the beat goes on.
