Lahaina Harbor would awake before the sun rose with visitors dashing to fishing charters, whale watches, and the Expeditions Ferry. I'd often stay in the "friends & family" room on the 2nd floor of the Pioneer Inn during the Maui Plein Air Painting festival--the balcony was a great spot to watch the passing parade. Because light is so fleeting at that time of day, I set my easel up at the same spot for 3 consecutive pre-dawn mornings.
